ABSTRACT

With the migration of a large number of South Asians worldwide, not only have the people but also their caste traveled with them, making it a global phenomenon. In this chapter, I examine the persistence of caste-based discrimination among the Indian diaspora in the United States of America (USA) and explore the coping mechanisms adopted by Dalits, who are most affected by it. The chapter discusses the contributions of the transnational Ambedkarite movement, particularly focusing on the landmark inclusion of caste in Seattle's anti-discrimination law. By analyzing community activism and solidarity networks, this study provides an account of Dalits’ struggle for recognition and justice in a global context.
