ABSTRACT

This chapter explores mixed-methods research designs that deliberately integrate quantitative and qualitative approaches within a single study. It outlines the rationale for combining methods – namely, to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of complex social phenomena and to balance out the limitations of any one approach. Common mixed-methods designs (such as sequential, concurrent, and embedded strategies) are described with practical examples of implementation. The chapter also emphasizes the role of triangulation, where multiple forms of data or analysis are cross-checked to strengthen findings. Contemporary digital applications of mixed methods are highlighted – for instance, pairing survey results with social media analytics or enriching quantitative trends with interview insights. Readers learn how methodological integration adds significant value and are introduced to techniques and tools for effectively merging data from diverse sources.
