ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the process of developing robust research designs and methodological plans. It guides readers through translating a research question into an appropriate study blueprint by considering classical design strategies, such as experimental versus non-experimental setups, cross-sectional versus longitudinal approaches, case studies, and key considerations like defining variables, selecting samples, and ensuring validity. The chapter also stresses aligning design choices with the underlying research paradigm and objectives. Importantly, it examines how the digital era influences research planning: for example, how online data collection or remote collaboration create new opportunities and constraints, and how emerging tools (like AI-assisted literature reviews or simulations) can support the design process. Throughout, the emphasis remains on thoughtful, intentional design choices that balance innovative methods with sound scientific principles.
