ABSTRACT

To wrap up the analysis of collective action for transdisciplinary research in this book, chapter 6 therefore provides some indications for further research on implementation of transdisciplinary research processes in practice. Such research can benefit from looking beyond transdisciplinary research that focuses only on universities, high schools, and national research organizations as the key players for organizing transdisciplinary research. Indeed, the analysis in this book hints at a much broader field of research on implementation that still needs to be further explored, based on the cross-fertilization between different closely related research practices. This broader field includes research labelled as interdisciplinary but which addresses the needs for organizing interactions with societal actors, related fields of transdisciplinary research on grand societal challenges beyond sustainability, and directly policy-related transdisciplinary research practices in so-called community science practices.
