ABSTRACT

Two types of components support learning transfer: continuity and interaction. Transfer is the application of behavior in the present being used in such a way that learning is better for the client in the future. Three types of transfer exist: specific, nonspecific, and metaphoric. Specific transfer means transferring specific items, nonspecific means transferring specific processes, and metaphoric transfer refers to the transfer of analogous experiences. The examination of transfer by researchers has been fair, but extremely limited in number. What has been found out is what serves the field well. Two studies were examined quite closely: one study incorporated the other covering child sex offenders. Regarding the transfer of learning, this randomized control designed study showed that not only did the transfer of learning occur from adventure experience, but also that the type of properly executed facilitation also made a difference in both initial and maintenance levels of transfer. Such long-term positive transfer effects have been demonstrated not only in quantitative studies, but also qualitative studies (Gass, Garvey, & Sugerman, 2003).
