ABSTRACT

Gender, grabbers, and green grabbing are the keywords in this chapter. The entry on gender in land relations locates the question within the resurging scholarship on land in production and social reproduction, reminding the reader of the important shortcomings of the past scholarly and practical policy work on gender relations in land politics. The keyword ‘grabbers’ emphasizes the weakness in the literature on the contemporary land rush that is so focused on corporate actors, and introduces other types of entities that are key drivers of the land rush. The final key concept in this chapter is green grabbing. It is perhaps one of most powerful key concepts that captures the essence of contemporary land politics, that is, that at the heart of most contestations and struggles around land control today are the environmental and climate politics.
