ABSTRACT

This chapter, “Embodied Metafiction”, deconstructs the postmodernity of Jeffers’ narratives to highlight the metafictive and self-reflective elements at the core of his writing. Jeffers’ picturebooks offer a unique experience through mixed-media, detailed illustrations, and compelling metafictional qualities. This chapter argues that these qualities are heightened when observed through a postmodern lens. Using specific visual examples from The Incredible Book Eating Boy, This Moose Belongs to Me and There’s a Ghost in this House, it explores Jeffers’ postmodern approach to conveying the nuances of unconventional storytelling.
