ABSTRACT
Using examples of seven projects of ‘development’ in different regions and decades, the chapter examines representing, conditioning and subjectivising mechanisms of power in these projects. It asks whether the transformation of ‘development’ and its emphasis on participation and civil society also entails a transformation of the relations of power – and what a poststructuralist perspective on the topic has to offer.
