ABSTRACT
How might we carry out research into risk-informed information practice? This chapter brings a methodological focus to the study of risk-informed information practice, paying particular attention to the research methods that facilitate access to the ways in which information literacy shapes the perception, understanding and management of risk as well as the ethical challenges of carrying out research in this area. Focused on three key methodological concerns, the chapter starts by exploring how we access risk-informed information practice, including how qualitative, participatory, and arts-based methodological approaches facilitate an engagement with non-normative data as well as the not-yet temporality of risk. The chapter continues by presenting four questions designed to provoke further consideration on the ethics of risk-informed information practice, before concluding with reflection on the impact of risk-informed information practice research on the researcher.
