ABSTRACT
In this chapter, recent research is reviewed by investigating situational factors that give rise to or enhance the sense of commitment. The starting point is the idea that anything indicating that some other agent may expect and be relying on one to perform an action should, other things being equal, increase one’s motivation to perform that action. The findings discussed here confirm that the perception of a partner’s effort, a high degree of coordination and mere repetition may serve as cues to this effect.
