ABSTRACT

Ceremonial occasions such as centenary commemorations and annual conventions are examined for what they reveal of Ahmadi institutional understandings of sacred time and as a means of place-making, with particular reference to the UK Ahmadi jama‘t. Two events in particular are analyzed: the 2014 Conference of World Religions in the 21st Century; and the annual jalsa salana (Ahmadi convention). The means by which these events are used to place the Ahmadis at the heart of British religious, social and political life as well as how the British establishment has responded to the Ahmadi presence in the UK are discussed.
