ABSTRACT
The conclusion reassesses the impact of railways on colonial Indian society and discusses the wider implications of this book. It also suggests that approaching the social history of technology through the index of contestation over social spaces enables a new method of examining the nature of technology transfer and a deeper understanding of the nature of the colonial state and the ability of technology to initiate social change.
