ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 introduces the main themes of the book – biopolitics of life today, the stakes involved, and the idea of mapping life and where that ‘map’ will (or not) lead us in the future. We note how biovalue has been a key topic in the early analyses of new biopolitical reality of the contemporary moment, and how current theories have been in pains to fully account the interrelated questions of life, information, politics, and value. In the chapter, we introduce our case studies and provide background and motivation for why we wrote the book in the first place.
