ABSTRACT
This chapter draws on survey and interview data to look in some depth at the role of martial arts to well-being. Using National Office of Statistics measures, well-being, alongside additional measures that consider perceptions of well-being and improvements (or not) via martial arts activities, is considered. Ideas of well-being connected to areas of intellectual, social and physical are also explored, as is the relative importance of ‘belonging.’ The importance of managing stress as well as a general consideration of the role of self-efficacy in promoting health and mental well-being I touched on. Finally, the chapter concludes by considering the value of martial to managing and maintaining mental health.
