ABSTRACT

The Internet is home to vile interactions in the form of bullying, harassment and stalking. These hateful interactions represent the dark side of the evolution of the Internet from the early 1990s to the age of social media. The recent expansion of information and communication technologies (ICTs) has been rapid and large scale, but it is rooted in the development of information societies. Online services are now so integrated in everyday life that they are common tools continually used for self-understanding and social networking. The essential nature of the Internet in our everyday life has made disconnecting from it increasingly difficult. As information on individuals accumulates via the use of social media sites, vulnerability to various online attacks also increases.
