ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an introduction to the book, detailing key trends in youth sport participation and consumption, and the varied responses from the International Olympic Committee. It explains the important roles of IOC President Thomas Bach and the Agenda 2020 policy in the inclusion of more youth-friendly action sports into the Olympic programme, and the challenges that have occurred as the IOC has sought to bring more action sports into the Games. It then provides an overview of the book.
