ABSTRACT
In this chapter, I sketch out the Italian context in which immigrant mobilizations took place. I offer an overview of the conditions under which immigrant civic and political participation and inclusion in Italy is obstructed by institutional racism and the hostile climate of intolerance in the country. I also introduce the role of various key left-wing and civil society organizations in promoting the inclusion of immigrants in Italy. Subsequently, I present briefly the methodology I used to conduct my research.
