ABSTRACT

Using a critical lens and building on immigrants’ own experiences of marginalization, this chapter presents the mechanisms that produce political racialization. It explains how immigrants have exposed and challenged processes of othering by Italian pro-immigrant groups in the political sphere. In addition, through the analysis of selected interviews with immigrant activists, the chapter presents a variety of perspectives and strategies deployed by immigrant activists to reveal how, despite having different migratory paths and political views, they are redefining the meaning of inclusion and participation from below.
