ABSTRACT

The introduction provides an overview of the objectives, method, and structure of the book. The first part explains the focus on Europe within the discussion of the Imago mundi and the geographical tradition constituted by its translations and adaptations. The second section introduces two theoretical concepts which will play a central role in the following discussion: the chronotope and fuzzy sets. These are subsequently used in the book to explain the texts’ treatment of regions and borders. The introduction concludes with a roadmap for the book.
