ABSTRACT
‘Not fitting into one single discipline, but belonging to many at once; that is the story of my life,’ Peter Sloot says, reflecting on a career that spans decades and disciplines. The emeritus professor of complex adaptive systems at the University of Amsterdam, and founding scientific director of the Institute for Advanced Study (ias) of the University of Amsterdam, speaks without regret. Looking back, he sees how every twist and turn in his life led him to the study of complexity. ‘Sometimes it feels like all paths of my life pointed towards something like the ias,’ he reflects.
