ABSTRACT

The venue, which was a large sports hall, was far from filled when at four o’clock in the afternoon the official kick-off of the party started. A presenter appeared on stage and addressed the audience in Dutch: “Welcome everybody, thank you for coming on the first day of Easter. Tomorrow we all have a day off 1 , so let’s enjoy the party. There will be no alcohol served, because without booze we can have a very good time too.” The crowd started to cheer and applaud in response to this remark. The presenter continued: “Fortunately all artists who will be performing today have made it to the venue, so we are very happy with that. Now here is Ruqbi to speak to you in Arabic. Unfortunately we have nobody who can speak to you in Berber.” The crowd makes booing sounds.
