Beatles albums were released by Capitol Records and Vee-Jay Records; later, the Beatles performed on The Ed Sullivan Show. The Rolling Stones released their first album. Racial segregation protests occurred in New York City. Turks and Greeks began battling in Cyprus. Cassius Clay became heavyweight champion. Ford produced its first Mustangs. A massive earthquake in Anchorage, Alaska, caused huge damage and resulted in 125 deaths. As military commitment to the Vietnam War continued, draft cards were publicly burned for the first time. Robert Moog unveiled his Moog synthesizer prototype. Martin Luther King, Jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
