ABSTRACT

So far I have covered the global movement towards sustainable development and the role of development banks therein. But what does a company's transition towards sustainability look like in practice? In this final chapter I want to offer some insights into how FMO has navigated and adapted to the shifting global landscape during my time as CEO. The strategic changes were based on FMO's strength and intended to strengthen FMO even further in the light of our shareholders wishes’ and the global changes described in chapter two. As I noted in chapter three, we wanted to place FMO in a position that would better allow it to support companies in making sustainability central to their mission, so as to raise the investment needed to reach the Global Goals. FMO would need to be an adequate partner for other players in the impact investing space in order to scale the investments for sustainable development as well as develop and finance the new business models described in previous chapters.
