ABSTRACT

Introduction The ‘Oxy Building’ is located in the heart of downtown Niagara Falls on the American side of the world-renowned waterfalls. The architects wanted to take advantage of the magnificent views of the Falls without adopting the standard design response of the time, which seemed to prescribe restricted window areas to limit energy loss. The prospect of daylit interiors seemed to offer much greater opportunities for energy savings, and a double envelope was proposed to counter the excessive heat losses and gains that would be incurred by a fully glazed building.
