ABSTRACT
Adopting a "network-oriented" approach means thinking of people in their networks of social relationships. This chapter describes that like Ahmed, the older adults are often connected in large networks of people, including their families, carers, and other helping practitioners, engaged to address their needs and offer resources. The chapter facilitates effective dialogue in meetings and creates respectful and collaborative communities for all systems of care with older people. A conductor's task is to structure the meeting in such a way that all present, contribute and agree on an action plan by the end of the meeting. Meetings in older adult services often deal with distressing topics such as leaving one's home forever, serious illness where little is done to change a slow, worsening progression, or frightening symptoms associated with mental illness. Older adults usually have trouble in reading small print; they use large, easily readable type, and leave spaces between paragraphs, making the whole as easy to read as possible.
