ABSTRACT

In artistic interventions elements from the art-world, people, practices or products, inspire organizational members to think and work in more creative ways. Their purpose is usually to help organizational members to see their daily routines, work patterns, client relationships and organizational processes in a new light. Purported benefits for employees and their organizations range from entertainment and catharsis to identity work and organizational change. By leaving the studio and entering into organizations, artists offer their practices to a wider community. In some sense, the organization has become the studio, and with it a space for artistic inquiry. A silo mentality, internal rivalries and a lack of knowledge sharing were roadblocks to a more effective and cost-efficient organization. To address these problems, an Innovation and Knowledge Sharing department (IKS) was established in 2009 with the aim of fostering organizational change, knowledge sharing, a holistic mind-set and an innovation culture.
