Resources like resilience are both innate relatively stable traits and capacities which can be cultivated, developed and grown. One might also say that the development and maintenance of a resource is dependent upon a coinfluencing combination of internal and external factors. Self-awareness is intrinsically linked to self-regulation, and in many ways underpins the ability to self-regulate in that one can see with an 'inner eye' what requires regulating. The months in therapy following her dream supported Martin to discern the resources necessary for him to embody more this breakthrough moment. Alongside reflective enquiry into the origins of Jennifer's anxiety and activating circumstances, author's aim was to help her manage this troublesome feeling by bringing her awareness, first, to where the anxiety was located in her body and, second, to invite her to gently breathe into that area while at the same time noticing the experience of this and noting any simultaneously arising thoughts.
