ABSTRACT

Orthognathic treatment, which has evolved over the years, is concerned with the correction of certain aspects of dentofacial deformity. It requires a  team approach and is not just about an operation. Members of the team include an orthodontist, a maxillofacial surgeon, anesthetists, nursing staff, hygienists, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, dieticians, speech and language therapists and general dental practitioners. Obviously, it may not be possible or desirable to incorporate all these disciplines in the multidisciplinary clinics, but access to the various specialties should be available.
