ABSTRACT
Both the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and the World Economic Forum (WEF) have stressed the importance of equity for a prosperous future. In the WEF's Incheon Declaration of 2015, inclusion and equity were listed as "the cornerstone of a transformative education agenda". Education is both the problem and the solution. Disadvantaged populations who are denied equal access to quality education become increasingly marginalized as technology innovation leads to higher-education requirements for jobs that pay a living wage. In the classroom, the pedagogical practices of teachers can serve to either increase or decrease inequalities among students. Many teachers are using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a foundation for developing global citizenship. These goals were adopted in 2015 to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all by the year 2030.
