ABSTRACT

Nickel has been considered as a valuable strategic resource for many industries due to its various virtuous properties. Regularly nickel is discharged into the environment through wastewater generated from different industrial manufacturing processes. Also extensively growing production and consumption of nickel based products contribute for nickel accumulation in environment as the form of solid waste. Although nickel is beneficial for plants and animals at minute quantities, high concentrations generate numerous detrimental effects. Moreover, it is recognized as a non-biodegradable toxic metal and removing of nickel from waste has been identified as a scientific challenge. Therefore, this book chapter extensively discus about different nickel removal and recovery approaches from various types of waste including Leaching, Ion Exchangers, Ion Flotation, Adsorption and Membrane Filtration.
