ABSTRACT

The FARRAGO; or, The Lucubrations of Counsellor Bickerton, Esquire appeared in Oxford in just two numbers dated June 17 and June 18, 1816. Although the reviews of Coleridge and Byron – both signed “T.O.” – give every evidence of being serious, if callow, critical efforts, both the title and the brief existence of the Farrago suggest that it was either a spoof or else merely a temporary outlet for the opinions of a small clique of undergraduates.
