ABSTRACT

Paleozoic rocks are widely distributed in Libya. They crop out in the Jabal az Zalmah (Jabal Dalma) and Jabal Arknu in Southeast Libya, over large areas of the Jabal Al Qarqaf (Jabal Gargaf), and in Southwest Libya. They are encountered in the subsurface of the Kufrah, Sirte, Ghadames, and Murzuq basins, and the Jifarah Plains . In the Sirte Basin, only a small record of the Paleozoic sediments remains after the Hercynian orogeny. As in Egypt, Early Cambrian sediments and igneous rocks originated during the late stage of the Pan-African orogeny and they are often included in the basement.
