ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author describes the paperwork that has been developed as a way of recording some of the teaching cycles that occur thousands of times each day in a setting where children are initiating their own play. The Learning Journey sheets are blank at the start of the week, except for the name, date and a couple of notes to remind staff about any particular areas that they wish to focus on with this child and anything that the parents have asked about. Within an enabling environment and with all this wonderful teaching, the children will soon start to do things independently, and when such moments are observed they might be referred to as ‘Wow!’ moments. There is no legal requirement to keep documented evidence of attainment. The team at Staple Hill used to use a tracker that they had devised themselves, based on statements from the Development Matters document.
