ABSTRACT

After an introduction where I point out what I am not attempting to discuss, this chapter is in two distinct parts, in which I consider the maternal only in a very specic sense. Since this series aims to include the personal, I have brought together two strands: my rereading of John Heaton’s book The Talking Cure (2010) inuences the section on therapy, while a project, of sorting decades of notes to and about my long dead mother, is the source for the nal part.
