ABSTRACT

I present these three case studies as illustrations of the wide diversity of parenting behaviours that fall under the topic for this chapter. Clearly, the experiences of Samir's, Elizabeth's and Audrey's children will vary enormously, despite the fact that they all have parents with a psychological disorder. I chose these three individuals (after changing their names) because they have children who are now young adults and because I know something of how their children are doing. Not surprisingly, Samir's children are faring rather well, and Elizabeth's and Audrey's children are struggling more with the tasks of schooling, jobs, and building stable relationships. Perhaps more surprisingly, Audrey's children are doing far better than she is.
