ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the case of Bamberg offers a local perspective on the relevance of the policy and explores some of the emerging issues and challenges. It explores how Bamberg not only addresses it Outstanding Universal Value in isolation, but how this is equally connected to important intangible cultural heritage connected to the urban gardening tradition. The chapter addresses the question of environmental sustainability and concerns the issues of social inclusion and peace and security. The key aspects of inclusive social development in connection with Bamberg's World Heritage site refer to social cohesion and making the site accessible to a wide range of people. The municipality's investments in heritage conservation can, seen as a key element in the inclusive economic development of Bamberg. Bamberg generally is a peaceful and safe place with a high degree of social cohesion. In summary, it can be seen that all principal dimensions of sustainable development apply to the 'Town of Bamberg' World Heritage site.
