ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter, we discussed in detail one of the main purposes of multiple regression-

prediction. In this chapter, we present a discussion of another use of multiple regression-providing

explanations of possible causal relationships among a set of variables. Path analysis is actually one of two

techniques classified under the broad heading of causal modeling. Following a brief introduction to causal

modeling, and the distinctions between the two major types of causal modeling, we present a detailed dis-

cussion of path analysis, focusing on appropriate uses and proper interpretations of the technique.
