ABSTRACT
Under the new pension system, the retirement ages for men and women were kept at different levels -60 for women and 65 for men. It should be noted, however, that the current retirement age in Poland is quite low around 55 years for women and 59 years for men. It should be underlined that even if women with higher education enjoy higher employment rates, their wages are lower compared to those of men with similar educational attainment. In the new system, all persons that contributed, even for a short period of time, are entitled to old-age pensions. As a result, it is expected that the new system will extend the coverage of women. In the case of the new pension system, the future pension for a person aged 65 is equal in the baseline and first alternative scenarios and it is lower for lower retirement ages.
