ABSTRACT

Performance evaluation is the systematic process of developing criteria for job performance. Evaluation process of the staff members includes work productivity, work quality, dependability, team interactions, initiative, and leadership performance. Performance evaluations also provide written records to substantiate personnel actions. The essay evaluation in its simplest form requires the manager to write a paragraph or more covering a staff member's individual strengths and weaknesses and potential for further development. The interview portion of the performance evaluation should consist of a thorough review of the staff member's goals for the evaluation period, the degree to which these goals were accomplished, and setting new goals for the subsequent period. It is natural for the employee to directly associate both compensation and performance evaluation. Compensation after initial employment is generally classified as either cost-of-living or merit pay increases.
