Example 7.1 provides a voice-leading graph of the G♯-minor prelude (containing levels A to C), and Example 7.2 presents a durational reduction of its middleground. These graphs help to explain its unusual phrase structure, illustrate the use of replication of the fundamental line throughout various structural levels, and demonstrate Chopin’s use of metric devices to highlight tonal events.
