ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses three main areas: the effectiveness of increasing the aerobic capacity on immune and pulmonary functions, the aerobic exercise recommendations for patients with Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and the pulmonary exercises recommendations for patients with COVID-19. Aerobic exercises elevate the function and level of immune cells in our bodies such as T-lymphocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes; these cells are vital to counter any lung infections, including COVID-19. Pulmonary exercises should be an essential element in the treatment of patients with COVID-19 because of COVID-19 targets mainly the pulmonary system. Pulmonary exercises have been demonstrated to increase lung functions, elasticity, and strength; these are very important in helping patients with COVID-19 to recover faster and decreasing the death rate. There are different types of pulmonary exercises that help in decreasing both moist or dry coughs.
