ABSTRACT

Piezoelectric ceramics receive much interest due to their wide application ranges, especially in fabricating sensors, frequency filters, actuators, and many other electronic devices. Moreover, using these materials for generating energy is strongly needed today due to the high consumption of energy. The incorporation of these ceramic fillers to the various kinds of semi-crystalline and amorphous polymeric matrices generates new composites exhibiting excellent piezoelectric and ferroelectric characteristics, which can be used in several applications. The present chapter reviews the different types of polymer/ceramic composites exhibiting excellent piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties. The different parameters influencing the performance of these composites, including the filler ratio, particle size, the surface-treatment, and the preparation method are discussed along with some examples taken from the large body of literature.
