ABSTRACT

My 3-year-old son exclaims “Tory Mama, tory Mama, tory Mama!” several times a day, especially before nap and bedtimes, and while using the potty as “the poopsies want to hear the tories too.” My 1-year-old son appears to enjoy the stories also and often uses the opportunity to breastfeed in between playing with toys or trying to climb into the bathtub. Along with a hunger for Pedialyte Freezer Pops and my grandmother’s empanadas, pregnancy and birth brought cravings for stories about breastfeeding, particularly those traditionally shared as oral histories by women in my family.
