ABSTRACT

Dream Self, its views, feelings and actions, is a surrogate for readers' waking identity, despite, as Medard Boss has pointed out, its many challenges to the rational mind. The placement of Dream Self on the Form axis reflects how other perspectives invested in the life issues addressed by the group view readers, that is, their waking perspective. When readers look at the placement of Dream Self and the goblin in the Dream Sociogram, they may find that they are placed very close together on the Form axis. In Methodical Suicide, a bonafide nightmare, Dream Self and his antagonist, Man, are aligned, both rejected on the Form axis. This is an example of how Dream Sociometry at times compellingly requires the dreamer to claim ownership of that which he rejects most strongly within himself. Unrecognized affiliates and Dream Self surrogates, when depicted with Dream Self, create a special kind of preference cluster.
