ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Kathryn Cantrell, Kerri Modry-Mandell, Jessica Pappagianopoulos, Sarah Grill, and George Scarlett utilize play, playfulness, and creativity to shine light on the painful shadowlands of teens who struggle to accept, share, and manage their HIV and its physical, social, and emotional sequelae. They explain how medical play can be adapted for targeting adolescent patients with HIV. They provide an updated account of the HIV experience for adolescents and those in their lives and the specific problems that medical play can help ameliorate, and describe medical play interventions for this specific population.
