ABSTRACT
The Plug-in Crosscut Element (PCE) is a highly standardized, high precision pre-manufactured and fully assembled ready-to-install concrete wall system. It is designed to close cross connecting galleries in a tunnel in one step. Its main advantages consists of (1) 15% less manufacturing cost, (2) up to 90% installation and commissioning time saving, (3) max. access to the cross connecting gallery until the last moment, (4) increased safety due to less manpower required inside the tunnel, (5) high system reliability due to pre-verified modules. These advantages result from standardized and highly repetitive production steps outside the tunnel and a clever logistics concept. The PCE, including its fully operational sub-systems is pre-installed, tested and accepted before entering the tunnel. Its logistics concept is based on a versatile applicable manipulator, which can be fixed to any type of transportation system. The transportation, installation and commissioning time can be accurately planned, optimized and executed.
