ABSTRACT
This chapter describes polymeric biomaterials based on the natural amino acid l-tyrosine. We discuss the synthesis of tyrosine-derived monomers and polymers, the processing and physicomechanical properties of these polymers, their hydrolytic degradation mechanism, and their in vitro and in vivo behavior. We will conclude with a description of the utility of these polymers in drug delivery applications.
