ABSTRACT

This chapter explores residents’ reactions to the design of their housing environment in four selected estates in Algiers. It presents the respondents’ evaluation of the environment outside their dwellings. The chapter focuses on a detailed analysis of residents’ perception, use and alteration of their dwelling units, as well as their overall level of satisfaction. Systematic observation and record of activities taking place and changes made to the housing environment were carried out in both the inside of the dwelling and the outside environment.
