ABSTRACT
It is 5.00 a.m. Lisa hears her single mother, Brenda, begin moving in the other room of their small apartment. Brenda is getting ready to head out to work as a waitress for $2.35 an hour. Her tips average $30.00 a day. According to the US government, $120.00 in food stamps should feed a family of four. Little does the government know that the food stamps last about a week. The rest of the month Brenda must rely on neighborhood-based social service agencies to feed her family. Where might the next batch of assistance come from?
