ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we seek to provide strategies for managing poverty-related family stressors. We explore the magnitude, resources, and meaning (MRM) model as a heuristic scheme of how families function as well as a guide for professional inquiry. In addition, we explore the model as a guide for communitybased and grassroots interventions aimed at family capacity-building to manage poverty-related family stressors. This strategy looks to energize social movements that foster poverty-focused holistic, comprehensive, and sustainable improvement agendas. Throughout the chapter, we advance a resiliency, and empowerment approach that considers poor families to have expertise pertaining to their own personal issues surrounding poverty.
